So many people talking to me about sleep problems today.
As adults we all need varying amounts of sleep and babies are much the same.
However in their very early days they have a lot more light phase sleep.
This is because rem sleep ( rapid eye movement) or light phase sleep is when the brain develops.
Also babies have to develop their own body or biological clock and this can take a while, babies in the early days have no understanding of day or night.
It’s never to early to begin help them understand. From a very young age during night feeds and nappy changes try not to interact with baby; no smiling ,cooing or chatting. Keep the room as dark as you can and just feed and change nappy and help settle back down. In the daytime chat chat smile coo have. the room bright and curtains drawn back and music/ radio on. The difference will soon be picked up by baby.
